Grohe SmartControl® Shower

When we began planning our basement renovation this year, we knew we wanted to create a luxury bathroom space that would be perfect for guests, ourselves, and our little girls, and with the help of GROHE Canada, our dream bathroom came to life.

I knew I wanted a concrete looking tile to cover the bathroom from floor to ceiling, and I wanted fixtures and finishes to match the moody aesthetic. Beyond the look, I wanted the pieces to perform well long-term and be easy to use for our kids. GROHE checked off all of these boxes.

GROHE is a leading global brand for complete bathroom solutions and they're dedicated to providing innovative water products. They're on the cutting edge of technology without sacrificing quality, design and sustainability. We love the GROHE Side-Handle Centerset Bathroom Faucet and Right Height Elongated Toilet (both from their Essence Collection) used in the basement bathroom, but GROHE’s bread and butter is their showers so we were so excited to feature their SmartControl Shower systems for a modern yet luxurious shower experience.

We wanted our shower to be an oasis in our basement bathroom, and for it to feature high-end finishes to complement our design. GROHE’s Grohtherm® SmartControl Single Function Thermostatic Valve Trim, Tempesta Cosmopolitan 100 Shower Head and Relexa Shower Arm are the perfect pairing to our concrete tile shower. Each piece works together seamlessly to create a customized shower experience that our guests and our family can enjoy.

For the shower trim, we chose the Grohtherm® SmartControl Single Function Thermostatic Valve Trim for its multiple high-tech but useful features. With the push and turn of a button, you can select the water’s outlet, pressure, and temperature for a customized shower experience. Just push the button to start and stop, and turn it to adjust the water flow. Whether you want to surround yourself with fat, lazy droplets, or need more pressure to give your back a much needed massage, it’s quick and easy to do so, even for our girls! The best part is that we can position it to the perfect setting anytime they turn on the shower, and with the GROHE SafeStop override button that allows you to set a maximum temperature of 100° F/38° C, we don’t have to worry about scalding water, which is a must for families with little kids.

Some bonus features of the Grohtherm® SmartControl include the integrated GROHE Turbostat® technology that prevents any unpleasant temperature fluctuations, the GROHE EasyLogic markings and textured buttons with exchangeable symbols making it easy and intuitive to use, and the water-saving GROHE EcoJoy™ technology which gives you the option of a reduced flow rate with no compromise on enjoyment.

Overall, I love the minimal design and all of the amazing features of this innovative shower system. With its concealed thermostat and slim profile, the streamlined look perfectly complemented the tile. We chose to only add one panel of glass enclosure to keep the sight lines open and show off the beauty of the fixtures.

As for the showerhead, I wanted to choose something that would work well with the rest of the space, while also featuring a classic look to last for years to come. The GROHE Tempesta Cosmopolitan 100 Shower Head is just that. This shower head not only looks great, but it also features GROHE DreamSpray®, an advanced shower engine that delivers precise and consistent water distribution throughout any spray pattern. There’s nothing worse than a low quality shower head that has terrible water pressure. I have to say that this is the best shower I’ve ever experienced - amazing pressure and a personalized experience every time.

To match our bathroom faucet and accessories, we went with GROHE’s newest Hard Graphite finish for the shower fixtures, tying the whole space together with the bold but neutral tone.
